The Eating Habits of the Slightly Uninterested

Well, my friends. It has been several days since my last blog. I know you've been waiting with bated breath, so here it is. Ladies and gentleman, the first blog of the second week of February by the 5th oldest boy in the #1 greatest family, Sir Malcolm Jason.

Ha, what an intro. Unfortunately, this blog may not live up to those lofty standards. But I should discuss what has happened in my life this weekend/Monday. First of all, the weather was truly beatiful, especially today--even in the rain, it was gorgeous.

I am working on correcting my bad habits concerning sleep and food. The results? Well, I successfully went to bed an hour earlier last night, woke up at 8 this morning, and felt great. I ate breakfast for the first time in months today. I read online that if you eat 2 whole fruits or vegetables before your meal, it helps burn calories since it takes more calories to digest those items. So today in 3 meals I have had a total of 4 apples and 3 bananas. Oh, and it's healthy to eat salad after a meal, so I had 2 salads today (and I threw a fit when they told me I couldn't have salad at breakfast). Oh, and try 6 glasses of water compared to 2 glasses of diet caffeine-free Pepsi. Check. I was going to write here that I wasn't bragging, but let's be honest: I am. I'm proud of myself for keepin a balanced diet. So yeah, I'm bragging. What of it?

On to the classwork. Oh, philosophy. What can I say? The teacher seemed relatively stable today, and I applaud her for that. Chaucer is becoming the BANE of my existence. And it's not necessarily that challenging; it's boring. I mean why? Honestly? Give me the text in Modern English so I can read it without poking myself with a fork to stay awake.

In Fundamentals of Internet, we learned about blogging: I was an expert. I wonder why....

And then, in Sociology of Gender Roles, we learned about intersex people. It was pretty interesting, but at the same time, as usual, I felt under attack for my gender. Ah well, I don't think she'll grade me differently for it, and if she does, she'll get fired. Then who'll be laughing? HA!

Still waitin' for my federal return to get here.... Oh and when it does, rather than getting to save it or even buy myself something cool, I have to go get a tune-up for my car so it gets better gas mileage. Darn. Vinny(that's my car's name) has been a little sick lately, and his performance has been lacking. I still love the guy to death, but he needs his yearly physical. We've been through a lot, me and Vinny, and as strange as it sounds, I am gonna miss that car when he's gone.

I AM COMING HOME THIS WEEKEND! (He said in exclamation) I am pretty excited. I will have used every article of clothing I have in my dresser as of Friday (perfect timing). So let the laundry fun begin Friday night!!! Well, I should go work on some Video Production work. You stay classy, San Diego.

What A Day for a Daydreaming Boy

It's days like today that keep me warm.

The weather today was gorgeous, not too hot, not too cold (hopefully, the 3 bears don't sue me for copyright infringement for using that phrase). Needless to say, it seemed to put everyone, including my teachers, my classmates, and myself, in an excellent mood.

However, today was a very uneventful day all things considered. Nothing much happened in Philosophy (other than the constant ramblings of the possibly intoxicated---it's getting pretty hard coming up with catchy phrases to describe her teaching style--). Chaucer again tricked us all into believing his book had a plot. Fortunately, this class is immediately followed by Internet, which makes me feel so smart. Translating Middle English? Eh.... Conduct a Google search? Yes!

Well, I'm heading out with my roommate to see a show up at the Theatre tonight. It's called The Diviners, and I have no idea what it's about. But I know some people in it, so I figure I should go watch. Not many plans for the weekend, other than (hopefully) enjoying the nice weather.

And then next weekend I come home!!! I am really excited to get back to KC. I can't remember the last time I was away from home for 3 weeks, but it hasn't been that bad overall. Unfortunately, Clay isn't working the event with me on Valentine's Day, which means I can't give him my man-crush-not-so-manly-but-it's-a-joke-for-Valentine's-Day Card.

Well, I'm out like a light bulb that's been on for too long. Peace and love.

Polyphonic Spree and Fake Conversations

"Follow the day and reach for the sun!"

Part of the lyrics to one of the best songs I have heard in a long while. It's by a group called The Polyphonic Spree, who's CD I just received today (thank you Mom). Very positive and uplifting music sung by a full choir. "Can anyone say beauty in song form"? (If you can't say that, then stop reading and go work on your speech...)

2 classes on the day, Video Production and History of Film. Yes, I know. It's quite a tough schedule I have up here, but I'll manage somehow... In Film History, we watched a newer movie called Grizzly Man, a documentary about a man who lived with bears for 13 summers until he was attacked and killed by one. A sad story, right? Well, throughout the movie, the guy sitting next to me was laughing and talking. And not whispering, but talking out loud to the person behind him. Finally, I said, "Hey, man, you mind? I'm trying to watch this thing." Oh, yeah. He shut up real quick. (Disclaimer----The previous conversation never actually happened. In reality, I sat there quietly and let this person ruin the movie. But in my mind, I was the courageous warrior standing up for my right to moviewatching.)

Well, that was the highlight of my day, other than brownies in the Cafeteria today. If you ate at my cafeteria every day, you would understand my excitement at something that many would consider commonplace.

I almost made it a whole day without updating my blog. Ah well.... Peace out.

Chaucer: The Great Bore

Well, the 2nd installment of "Max and Joe" just got posted. It's not too shabby if I do say so myself. Which I do...

Well, LU is, as usual, much better than I make it out to be. I always seem to complain about this college, but it could be worse. Could be rainin'.....

So yeah. My teacher for Philosophy today HAD to be tripping on something. She was out there, talking about abstract thinking and the realism of existentialism.... I responded with, "WHAT?!"

Chaucer was profoundly mind-numbing. And here was the lesson (no joke) in Fundamentals of Internet: you can go to sites like Google and Yahoo! and search for anything on the web. No......

Well, this was another short post but whatever. I'm not complaining.

Miss America Was a Lion

Hey, hey, hey!

Another day, another blog post. I kind of enjoy this little thing. Let's me sum up my day in a few paragraphs. So here we go...

Today was pretty good. I'm feeling remarkably upbeat given the not-so-nice weather and the lack of many social events. But homework is definitely keeping me busy this week. Plus I have Scrubs tonight, so that's ALWAYS exciting!

I had to finish reading my first philosophy text today since it was a shorter book. It was actually a really good read. It's called "A Student's Guide to Liberal Learning." I enjoyed it.

Other than that, not a whole lot happening up here in St. Charles, MO. I did learn today that Miss USA 2004 is a Lindenwood alumn... Who knew?

Well, I'm Audi-5000. Enjoy your day, America.

What a Difference a Day Makes

It's a beautiful day!

Well, it's a little cold outside, but I woke up this morning in a really good mood! Even more upbeat than usual--and anyone who knows me knows that after 11 AM I am pretty upbeat in general. Before 11 AM, I'm pretty tired and grouchy, but after that I'm good to go!

Philosophy was not bad. My teacher seemed a little "Woo-Hoo!" but other than that, not too bad. Chaucer was actually NOT causing me to poke my own eyes out. And Fundamentals of the Internet was supremely easy as usual.

Work and Learn should probably be renamed Learning Not to Work. I've learned a lot of cool ways to pretend to work. But the weird thing is, my boss taught me. Today he told me, "Listen, if you're gonna slack off, don't get caught. Just keep an eye out for me, and start working when I drive by." Well, if you insist....

Tonight I have Sociology of Gender Roles. Hopefully my teacher will give me a break and realize that I'M not the reason her grandmother couldn't vote. Ah well. Even that can't bring me down.

And then, tonight, I get to relax and watch one of my new favorite shows, the new show Trust Me. It's pretty good. Certainly no Scrubs, but then again, what is?

Well, that is all for this post. This is Malcolm Jason, saying good night, and good mental health.

If Caffeine is Life Blood, LU is a Vampire

I just finished my first soda in a week. Sweet, blessed caffeine. I am still trying not to drink nearly as much soda, but I figure the Super Bowl was a good cause to have one.

So yeah. Suffering through a boring weekend at LU. Honestly, I don't know what people do around here on the weekends. And then it hits me: people don't do anything. I guarantee you that 85% of students here are either from within 45 minutes of here, or from a different country. And every weekend, there is noone here because everyone goes home. And the international students either stay at home or hang out with other international students.

I don't know. I realize now I'm complaining about my free college, so I really should just suck it up. A lot of people would kill to be in my position.

Anyway. Haven't left the dorm room today. I was feeling kind of sick yesterday, so I was in most of the day then too. I am looking forward to tomorrow, just so I have something to do all day: on Mondays I start at 8:30 AM and don't get done until 8:30 PM. But at least while I was sitting here in prison--I mean, my dorm--- I got my homework done.

Reading one of my blogs recently, I noticed I complained of constant exhaustion. It may be something with me, but I am starting to wonder if it's this place sucking the life out of my bones. I need to go back to KC. Hopefully these next 2 weeks fly by. I never thought I'd say it, but I can't WAIT for that Valentine's Day Jonas Brother Event!
